Jeffrey C. Fivecoat, M.B.A., has broad experience in planning, structuring, and closing acute-care hospital and senior housing capital projects since 1998. He is a senior vice president in Piper Jaffray’s healthcare finance group and his previous experience includes time with Red Capital Markets as an investment banker, with Ohio Health as a director of finance, and a financial planning consultant for Banner Health. As a testament to his diverse financing experience, Fivecoat sat on a national task force for the United States Department of Agriculture to implement a loan committee for review of large community facilities projects across the country. Fivecoat is considered an expert in the field of healthcare financing and he is a frequent presenter on capital matters at regional healthcare conferences.

Jeremy Gerber

Jeremy Gerber joined Piper Jaffray in 2011 and is currently a vice president. Gerber has served a wide array of borrowers including senior living service providers, state and local governments, transportation authorities, water and sewer authorities, publicly owned water utilities, hospitals, human service providers, and private schools. Gerber is primarily responsible for transaction structuring and execution. Most recently, Gerber has focused on providing financing for senior living service providers new construction, acquisition, repositioning, and refinancing projects. 

Before joining Piper Jaffray, Gerber was an associate at Jefferies & Co. Prior to joining Jefferies, Gerber was a vice president at Sovereign Securities Corporation. Gerber attended Drexel University where graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in business administration.

Ogieva Guobadia

Ogieva Guobadia joined Piper Jaffray in 2014 and is a vice president in the firm’s senior living investment banking group. Guobadia has extensive transaction experience, including structuring bond issues, credit analysis, identifying refunding opportunities, debt structure evaluation, financial modeling and quantifying savings and cost implications of capital structuring alternatives. Guobadia is primarily responsible for the coordination and execution of transactions from engagement to completion. He has focused expertise across various industry sectors, including the for-profit and non-for-profit senior living, healthcare and education sectors.

Prior to joining Piper Jaffray, Guobadia spent three years with BB&T Capital Markets and five years with HJ Sims.

Guobadia earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from the College of Arts and Sciences at Boston College. He also earned a Master of Business Administration degree and a master’s degree in finance from Clark University. Guobadia is a Level III candidate in the Chartered Financial Analyst® program.

Keith Kleven

Keith Kleven has spent his entire career in public finance and joined Piper Jaffray in 2006. Kleven is a vice president with the healthcare public finance group. Over the last 10 years, Kleven has been involved with more than 100 transactions for healthcare, senior living and governmental clients. Kleven has completed transactions representing the full complement of financing structures including traditional, fixed-rate public offerings, direct bank placements, private placements and tax-backed healthcare transactions. His experience also includes capital structure and debt capacity analysis, quantitative analysis, cash flow modeling, financial analysis, variable rate issues, and escrow structuring. Kleven holds a bachelor’s degree in business with a concentration in finance from the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota.

Richard Lohr

Richard Lohr is a managing director in the public finance investment banking group of Piper Jaffray. He is located in Houston, Texas and is the co-head of the nationwide senior living finance group, with responsibilities including business strategy, coordination with key platform groups and bank affiliates, geographic expansion of the platform as well as diversification and execution of the growth mandate. He has over 25 years of experience in both private and public company environments.

Prior to joining Piper Jaffray, Lohr was co-head of the housing and healthcare group at BB&T Capital Markets. Previous to investment banking, Lohr was an equity partner and member of senior management at Greystone Communities, Inc. He was responsible for business development activities, including the development of strategy, business plans and operations improvements as well as coordinating and financing the execution of plans developed. He was responsible for managing the development of complex financial models as well as financial reporting and continuing disclosure to the board of directors and institutional investors of various projects and investments. Greystone Communities was subsequently acquired by Sunrise Senior Living.

Lohr began his career at Bank One, Texas. Subsequent to Bank One, he worked in the management consulting sector for Peterson Consulting and Tucker Alan, Inc. and provided various business advisory services to clients in the insurance, manufacturing, aerospace and defense as well as other sectors.

Lohr is a graduate of Baylor University.

Jonathan Ly

Jonathan Ly joined Piper Jaffray in March 2015. Prior to joining Piper Jaffray, he served as an investment banker and lead analyst at Benchmark Securities, Blaylock Robert Van and CastleOak Securities. Previously, he was an associate and head of training at Ferrand Consulting Group, the parent company of the Munex bond structuring software. Prior to Ferrand, he was an associate banker and senior analyst at KeyBanc Capital Markets. Ly began his career as an arbitrage rebate analyst at the law firm of Chapman and Cutler.

Ly graduated with honors from the University of Illinois at Chicago with dual bachelor’s degrees in finance and economics. He holds the following FINRA securities licenses: Series 52 and 63.

Romy McCarthy

Romy McCarthy joined Piper Jaffray in 2013, bringing more than 23 years of financing expertise, specializing in healthcare and senior living finance. McCarthy has worked with an array of healthcare and senior living clients including hospitals, health systems, clinics, nursing homes, assisted living providers and continuing care retirement communities. In 2009, a transaction led by McCarthy was awarded The Bond Buyer’s “Midwest Deal of the Year.”

Prior to joining Piper Jaffray, McCarthy was a Director of Ziegler Capital Markets Group.

McCarthy earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration with an emphasis in finance from Carroll University (Waukesha, Wisconsin) and a Masters of Business Administration from Marquette University (Milwaukee, Wisconsin). She is a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association and an active participant and sponsor of LeadingAge.
