Jason Harkness

Jason Harkness is a managing director in the technology investment banking group at Piper Jaffray, where he co-heads the firm’s coverage efforts in internet, digital media and related software and focuses on providing the full range of investment banking services, from advisory on mergers and acquisitions to public and private equity and debt financings.

Harkness has more than 18 years of investment banking and venture capital experience and has spent his entire career advising and investing in companies in the internet and software spaces. Most recently, he was a managing director in the technology investment banking group at Raymond James, where he was head of internet and digital media and successfully completed over $40 billion of equity and M&A transactions. Previously, Harkness was a principal at Pinnacle Ventures where he invested more than $250 million in more than 20 internet and software companies, including BlueKai (acquired by Oracle), Chegg (NYSE: CHGG), Diapers.com (acquired by Amazon.com), Farecast (acquired by Microsoft), Gilt Groupe (acquired by Hudson’s Bay Co.), Kabam, Pandora Media (NYSE: P), Right Media (acquired by Yahoo!) and Zipcar (acquired by Avis Budget Group).  Earlier in his career, Harkness was a senior merchant banking analyst in the technology investment banking group at Thomas Weisel Partners and was a member of the audit and advisory practice at Ernst & Young.

Harkness received his Master of Business Administration from the Stanford Graduate School of Business and his bachelor’s of business administration degree, with summa cum laude distinction, from the University of Arizona.
