Jim Murray is a managing director in the Piper Jaffray financial services investment banking group. He has nearly 30 years of experience in advising non-bank lenders, as well as other types of financial services companies, in numerous public and private financings and strategic advisory engagements. Murray joined Piper Jaffray in 2015. 

Prior to joining Piper Jaffray, Murray was a managing director with Sterne Agee’s financial institutions group and with Freeman & Co., an investment banking firm that specializes exclusively in financial services. Previously, Murray was a managing director and group head of Houlihan Lokey Howard & Zukin’s financial institutions group, which he founded upon joining that firm. Prior to joining Houlihan Lokey, he was group head of North American corporate finance at Fox-Pitt Kelton, a global financial services investment bank. Murray began his investment banking career as a member of PaineWebber’s financial institutions group for 15 years, beginning as an associate and ending his tenure as a managing director.

Murray received his Master of Business Administration degree from the UCLA Anderson School of Management and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from DePaul University. He is a member of the Finance Advisory Board of DePaul University’s Driehaus College of Business, which advises the school’s department of finance on a variety of academic and other matters.
