Michael Barry

Michael Barry is a managing director in the financial services group at Piper Jaffray. He has over 30 years of experience calling on depository institutions advising on mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, restructurings/recapitalizations, defense, and public and private debt and capital raising transactions. Barry has extensive depository M&A experience, having advised on over 90 announced depository M&A transactions, with an aggregate value of over $165 billion, and has worked on over 70 public or private debt or equity transactions, raising over $55 billion in the aggregate.

Prior to joining Piper Jaffray in 2015, Barry was a senior managing director and head of depository M&A at Sterne Agee. Prior to joining Sterne Agee, he was head of FIG M&A at Stifel Nicolaus Weisel, and prior to that role, Barry was a managing director and head of the U.S. depository group at Merrill Lynch & Co. Barry has also held senior M&A positions in the financial institutions groups at Bank of America Securities—where he managed the overall M&A effort related to depository institutions—and Lehman Brothers.

Barry received his Master of Business Administration degree, with distinction, from University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School and a bachelor’s degree in politics, summa cum laude, from Princeton University.
