Michael C. Smith, NHA, is a vice president in the public finance department of Piper Jaffray. Prior to joining Piper Jaffray & Co he was vice president with H-T Capital Markets and prior to that he was vice president of Commerce Capital Markets (Pittsburgh Office) and former senior vice president of sales and marketing for the Quaestor Municipal Group, Inc. Smith has spent his career in a variety of private and public positions. He was the director of human resources for National Health Care Concepts, responsible for hiring, training and administration of benefits and compensation packages. Prior to this, Smith was employed by Allegheny County and was heavily involved in the establishment of the Kane Regional Centers and the closing of Kane Hospital. A native of Monroeville, Smith holds an master’s degree in personal administration/labor relations from St. Francis College, a bachelor’s degree in public administration from Point Park College and an associate’s degree from Community College of Allegheny County. He also is a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Smith has been a member of the Borough of Franklin Park Council from 1989 through 2005. He has served on various committees, delegate to North Hills Council of Government, vice president for four years, and president from 1996 to 2005. He was elected director for District I of the Allegheny County Borough Association, and was appointed by the Allegheny County Commissioners to the Public Participation Panel of the Southwestern Pennsylvania Regional Planning Commission. Smith is a seasoned professional whose experience as a long-term care administrator, employer and manager in county government and involvement in local government and human resources background provides him with an excellent blend of business experience in the public and private sectors.
