Martin Alvarez

Martin Alvarez is a managing director and head of Piper Jaffray technology equity capital markets and equity-linked origination. He has more than 15 years of experience structuring and originating nearly $49 billion of bookrun equity and equity-linked transactions.

Prior to joining Piper Jaffray, Alvarez was a managing director in Wachovia Securities’ equity capital markets group. Alvarez ran the equity capital markets financial institutions group and was responsible for originating IPOs, follow-ons and block trades. In addition, Alvarez ran the equity-linked structuring group and sat on Wachovia’s equity-linked commitment committee.

Prior to Wachovia, Alvarez was a vice president in Morgan Stanley’s global capital markets group, where he was responsible for structuring, executing and originating complex equity and equity-linked transactions with special emphasis on the technology and financial institutions sectors.

Alvarez received his bachelor’s degree in business administration in management and finance from the University of San Francisco and a Juris doctorate with an emphasis in securities law from Tulane Law School.
