NEW YORK, Feb 12, 2007 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX News Network/ -- In an effort to provide clients the best proprietary and in-depth research analysis in the medical technology sector, Piper Jaffray announces it has hired Suraj Kalia to join the Piper Jaffray Investment Research team. Kalia will broaden the firm's coverage of the medical technology sector. He will be based in the firm's New York office.

Kalia has more than 15 years of experience working in the financial and health care industries. Most recently, he was a senior medical device analyst at Rodman & Renshaw, LLC in New York. He was ranked No. 1 by Forbes.com/Starmine and No. 5 in the 2005 Wall Street Journal's "Best on the Street" survey in the medical devices sector. In his career, he also spent seven years as project and team manager of the mergers and acquisitions practice at Entegris Inc., a semiconductor company. Additionally, he worked in investment banking for Tata Capital in Bombay, India, for four years.

Kalia has a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in Bombay, India, a master's degree in chemical engineering at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, N.J. and a master's of business administration degree at the University of St. Thomas in Minneapolis. He also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.
